This last weekend the Hiplash gals piled into Mindy's little red bug and invaded the studio of my favorite ATS troupe Twisted Gypsy. We spent Saturday and Sunday learning moves introduced into the FCBD vocabulary by Devi of Ghawazee Caravan from Down Under. It was very fun, and I am excited to work them into Hiplash's vocabulary. But of course, I was sick. And I was having dizzy spells. AND I had my period. Why oh why is it that whenever I get a cold or the flu or any other kind of ailment, I must deal with the monthly visitor? It's like my body says, Hey! Life sucks for you right now. Let's make it suck MORE.
But I digress.
At the end of the workshop, I was asked if Alice was Belly Dance Orphan. I had to pause and think on that for a moment, because, while I do leave her at home for rehearsal and class time, I often try to figure out how to include her when I go to festivals. But more importantly, Alice has a greater belly dance family, and is not "orphaned", because of belly dance. Had Mindy not become a belly dancer herself, and had Julia not started the Buy a Baby for Faizeh Fund, nay, movement, who knows where she would have ended up. That thought is so bizarre to me, because Alice is so deeply, wholly, and completely MINE.
It's like Barbara Eden was watching in her pink outfit and blinked her eyes at just the right moments to make everything fall into place.
